Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition
GtgtNarrator This legislative summary is provided to you by Main Street Insider. This week we examine H.R. 2306, the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2011 sponsored by Congressman Barney Frank. Largely due to the war on drugs, the United States is by far the world leader in a dubious category incarceration of its citizens. gtgtBelville We are no up to 2.3 million Americans incarcerated, which makes us the world's leading jailer. 23 of all prisoners in the world are in America and the number overall is even greater than China with 1.3 billion people.
GtgtNarrator H.R. 2306 would set out to change this by essentially leaving authority to regulate marijuana to the states. Specifically, it exempts marihuana from regulation under Part A of the Controlled Substances Act and removes the Schedule 1 classification. Sets the maximum prison sentence for transporting marijuana at 1 year And removes blanket prohibition on the sale of marijuana. Supporters view the current drug policies as counterproductive and unjust. gtgtRep. Paul It's something that was legal for a long, long time. And the war against marijuana causes so much hardship and accomplishes nothing.
GtgtNarrator Opponents worry that these types of measures could be dangerous. gtgtEvans If you legalize marijuana, marijuana use is going to go up, Madison Avenue will get involved They'll try to create their market, they'll push it to kids like they do alchohol and tobacco right now, more people will use it. Social costs will go up and we're going to have a lot of trouble paying for all that. gtgtNarrator H.R. 2306 was assigned to the Energy Commerce Subcommittee Health, But no action is scheduled. The Judiciary Committee also has jurisdiction.
ProMarijuana TV Ad Pulled At Last Second
Last weekend NASCAR had a race the Brickyard 400 in indiana and during the race the first promarijuana legalization commercial was gonna air but at the last minute it was polled now but somehow the drugfree America Foundation got involved and the editor Ron I don't know exactly the specifics of that I think that foundation went to mask or in pleaded with them to not run it and they didn't run it but again I'm not sure the money went directly to the company that wanted to run the ad or whatever the case is.
But either way I have the ad for you let's listen you're an adult who enjoys a good view here's a similar for the more tylenol one without old calories and furious Hill world list of six or so course payrolls report who does dat edits not least two boilers or reckless behavior marijuana less harmful than alcohol standard for you for more information visit marijuana is safer dawdle alright for those pretty good a the part I like about it its kinda true they I always reference this one study was done.
I think in 2005 in Britain where they actually rained the lethality of different drugs alcohol was about number eleven on the list up our own sorry out all in number five on the list marijuana was about number eleven on the list so how does that make sense that alcohol is legal and marijuana is illegal because it's not about up how actually action terms UHV how bad it is a drug how much it hurts you so on and so forth are the only part sorry there are no now.
Let's be honest Sorrows school not no calories just I like alcohol belly on YouTube marijuana more to that call much is yes you will local wait on you and then they say oh no no hangover an assault charge and pitch better than alcohol but again I agree with you would it's a fact that it's not as dangerous as alcohol that's totally true but yeah no hangover but you do you can feel burned out you get the perpetual cotton mouth and you feel like you're walking you like I.
Feel weird and I was burned out today that's mess the term we said I E used to using my friend used to use the couple times I did smoke when I was in high school I'm serious too and I want some might not my favorite drug I kinda paranoid on it don't ask me why arm so your overall look I think the edge sure am allow the air is true and but look the bottom line when it comes to drug policy think about it like this if an alien came down to earth can you explain to them or drug policy.
So they have a list of all the different drugs and you have to explain what each one does any and that they say okay so how's this working so well the alcohol legal nicotine is legal tobacco's legal caffeine is legal and then yeah the rest to these are its with its complicated but most of them were illegal Aliens okay so why your answer would be heavily leaning because there is no answer because like I said marijuana's not as bad for you a lot of the drugs that are legal or not is there.
Muslim Student Asks About Islamaphobia Bernie Sanders
Questioner With the growing Islamophobia in this country, if you look at all the Republican candidates, in order to feed into their constituents, they are talking about Islamophobia and constantly bashing Muslims in the media. Ben Carson, Donald Trump the biggest bigots. As an American Muslim student who aspires to change this world. Thank you. Thank you. As an American Muslim student who aspires to change the world, currently majoring in International Conflict Analysis Resolution, and I hope to be a human rights attorney, hearing the rhetoric that's going on in the media makes me sick.
I as an individual am constantly trying to raise awareness and make sure that everyone is treated equally in this country. So, to the next President of the United States, what do you think about that Bernie This is what I think. Let me be very personal here if I might. I'm Jewish. My father's family died in concentration camps. I will do everything that I can to rid this country of the ugly stain of racism, which has existed for far too many years. Let me tell you something. What racism is about is many, many things. It is pentup hatred that is lashing out at people in uncontrollable and stupid ways,.
But it is something very different than that. For many years in this country, you have had politicians and I'm old enough to know this who played black off against white. So they told white workers who were earning pennies an hour, Hey! You think you're in trouble You're better off than the blacks who can't drink at a water fountain, or go to your school. And they told straight people, Well, you think you got problems You're better off than those gay people! Right And they told men against women. We play one group off against another.
Afghanistan War Could End Sooner Than Expected
It turns out we're getting out of afghanistan that's a really big news spam is skating underneath the radar for a lot of that new stations here lowkey and guess what they don't know what is what we've known all along which is that they were plants of prostate all the way till twenty twenty four and those plans are on having they were not kidding around and we recently sold twenty fourteen well new plans announced by leon panetta other drawdown begin seen every win twenty thirteen some advisers electing.
Twenty fourteen now look i know advisors means tens of thousands troops i'm not naive about that but by the says i get from this plant is that it is real and that no more talk about twenty twenty four we will be it looks like allout by twenty fourteen releasing any introductory thirty now some uh. reporters are saying well that's vicepresident bomb a is concerned about topics in an election year to which i say then tab stick is that what he said was in a sardar he made promises that and i got elected it's a democracy.
American people don't like how that garrison wars going there hundredpercent right they want to get out and their president of democracy response the war the people by getting out by the way many years after the the american people actually want to get out but finally gets out no i got playing politics if that's what bothers i love it mcveigh doesn't have all these are live with i was actually cared about the american people fun other circumstances this appears to be very good news about the other day there was a week that the.
Taliban and are actually not going away and then they will remain in afghanistan and there are still optimistic that they will one day takeover uh. afghanistan i don't know why that leak happen whenever i see a leak from the military always try to figure out why it is at the military ones that information out there maybe they didn't but one of things i was in that league is that pakistan continues to help the taliban tremendously uh. there's been a lot of conflict between of the us attacks any.
Governments over that and it continues to be in they've cut off a lot of our supply chains i'd go in afghanistan and soap maybe this is a bit of a strike back all you see that was made a report that shows that you've been were going to tell that it's possible but i get an over also spoke from that reporting from the news today but there are members made up its mind what we do in their wheatley killed most of al qaeda in afghanistan we kill those are the live in we're never going to modernize.
Afghanistan and have them bien shining beacon of democracy the wrestler world it's a crazy hope against hope thats we're not anywhere near that a new if we're gonna do that first of all this and we wouldn't be able to do with their guns are numbered two uh. it would take decades and decades even if you had any prayer hall so this dick let the decision it appears we gotta get out of afghanistan and by the way that you should we should have known that we were leaving afghanistan the minute betray his life.
This picture is a sold out his career head every other general uh. when they talk to reporters behindthescenes talks about opera transcends the ego and how he plays politics a setter that big regional anyway enact you know is that open question i know people on both sides that entrance brag endlessly about how he you know saved the situation in iraq anyone to take over afghanistan and after a little ones like yeah i gotta go head the cia uh. aussie guys later subsequent to dress up the i don't know now they've given uh. beethovenian.
NH House votes to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana
VIOLATION LEVEL OFFENSE LIKE A SPEEDING TICKET. ADAM SEXTON HAS REACTION TO TODAY'S VOTE. REPORTER WELL, SIX TIMES NOW IN ITS HISTORY THE NEW HAMPSHIRE HOUSE HAS VOTED TO DECRIMINALIZE SMALL AMOUNTS OF MARIJUANA. BUT NEVER BY SUCH A LAND SLIDE MARGIN. SUPPORTERS SAY IT'S A REFLECTION OF A MAJOR CHANGE IN WHAT USED TO BE A CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE. SUPPORT FOR DECRIMINALIZING THE POSSESSION OF SMALL AMOUNTINGS OF MARIJUANA IS REACHING NEW HEIGHTS IN THE NEW HAMPSHIRE HOUSE. ON WEDNESDAY, TALLYING JUST UNDER 300 VOTES. IT'S AMAZING. I THINK IT'S A CLEAR SIGN THAT.
NEW HAMPSHIRE IS READY TO MOVE BEYOND PUTTING PEOPLE IN JAIL BECAUSE NAY HAVE SMALL AMOUNTS OF MARIJUANA. LAST YEAR THE HOUSE PASSEDDED A SIMILAR BILL MAKING POSSESSION OF AN OUNCE OR LESS A VIOLATION LEVEL OFFENSE. THIS YEAR'S VERSION IS MORE CONSERVATIVE, TAKING THE THRESHOLD DOWN TO HALF AN OUNCE. IT ALSO MAKES CULTIVATING SIX OR FEWER MARIJUANA PLANTS A DISDEMEANOR. THAT MORE CAUTIOUS APPROACH IS BEING CREDITED WITH CUTTING FURTHER INTO HARD LINE OPPOSITION. REPRESENTATIVE STALL OF WHITE FIELD HAS BEEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR 43 YEARS. EVEN HE IS OPEN TO CHANGING THE.
LAW, BUT THINKS THE CURRENT BILL GOES TOO FAR. I'M NOT NECESSARILY AGAINST DECRIMINALIZATION OF A SMALL QUANTITY OF MARIJUANA. I THINK THE QUANTITY IS TOO BIG. I WOULD PREFER SOMETHING SMALLER. THE BILL STILL FACES LONG ODDS IN THE STATE SENATE. BUT COSPONSORS SAY MOMENTUM IS ON THEIR SIDE. WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT. WE HAD OVER 80 OF THE VOTE IN THE HOUSE, AND THE NUMBERS AT HOME WITH THE VOTERS SHOWS SOMETHING SIMILAR. GENERAL BRADLEY SAYS THERE MAY BE ROOM TO NEGOTIATE THIS YEAR. I THINK THERE'S SOME ABILITY.

Obama, Senate Democrats Balk at House GOPs Version of Payroll Tax Extension
BjbjLULU JEFFREY BROWN A Republican bill to preserve a politically charged tax cut went before the U.S. House today. But the move sparked an immediate warning from the White House. It was the latest act in the building drama over a payroll tax cut extension for 160 million Americans. Republicans pushed a bill to keep the tax cut for another year. It would also extend longterm jobless benefits again, while gradually winding down the maximum time period from 99 to 59 weeks. But they also attached a separate provision which would.
Force federal approval of the hotly debated Keystone oil pipeline to run from Canada to Texas. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor argued that's about creating jobs. REP. ERIC CANTOR, RVa., House majority leader Because, if the president said he wants to make sure that we create jobs, and he wants to be there for the middle class, that's what this bill does, tens of thousands of jobs, if not more. JEFFREY BROWN Democrats like New York's Charles Rangel insisted Republicans are, in effect, holding the payroll tax cut hostage to the pipeline.
REP. CHARLES RANGEL, DN.Y. Let's get rid of all the pipeline language. Let's do what the bill is supposed to do, and let's not put in something that could impede the passage. JEFFREY BROWN President Obama had delayed a decision on the Keystone pipeline until 2013. Today, a White House statement said he would veto the Republican bill if it gets to his desk. That seemed unlikely, though, since Senate Democrats served notice they'd block the House Republican measure first. In addition to the pipeline provision, Democrats opposed financing the bill by raising Medicare premiums for wealthier seniors and extending.
A pay freeze for federal workers for another year. But both sides also had one eye on the clock as it ticked down to the congressional holiday recess. SEN. MITCH MCCONNELL, RKy., minority leader We're going to have to act here before the week's out. And we are in favor of extending the payroll tax holiday for another year, in favor of extending unemployment insurance, with some reforms. SEN. HARRY REID, DNev., majority leader Republicans seem eager to get out of town. Some have even suggested they're willing to leave before we reach a.
Compromise on the payroll tax cut and other things. We're not going to do that. We're willing to stay here until that happens and we work something out. JEFFREY BROWN Despite the seeming deadlock, Congresswatchers like Sarah Binder of the Brookings Institution say there's much strategizing going on behind closed doors. SARAH BINDER, Brookings Institution Nobody wants to be raising taxes in whatever form. They don't want to do that on Christmas. Right They can't Republicans and Democrats can't have those headlines. And Democrats may think, well, we will just blame the Republicans. But the public doesn't really see it that.
Way. It's much more likely to be a pox on both your houses. JEFFREY BROWN In the meantime, the lack of agreement also threatened to tie up other key legislation. It was widely reported that White House aides want Democrats to hold up a $1 trillion bill to keep the government running past Friday, that is, until and unless a deal is reached on the tax cut extension and unemployment benefits. urnschemasmicrosoftcomofficesmarttags State urnschemasmicrosoftcomofficesmarttags countryregion urnschemasmicrosoftcomofficesmarttags place JEFFREY BROWN A Republican bill to preserve a politically charged tax cut went before the U Normal Microsoft Office Word.
